Members, patrons and patient families gather at Sundar Apartment, Chembur to mark another year of service — with cake, music and shared stories of resilience.
Every year on Sthapana Diwas, the Mumbai ashram pauses its routine to celebrate the day Hamro Chhahari was founded. Members past and present, patron families, current residents and old patients-turned-volunteers gather at Sundar Apartment, Chembur for an evening of music, food and remembrance.
The ceremony begins quietly — a lamp lit in front of the founding photograph, a moment of silence for those we have lost. The mood lifts soon after, with cultural performances by patient children, anecdotes from senior members, and inevitably, a shared cake.
What makes the anniversary special is the people who travel back for it — patients who once stayed at the ashram during their treatment, now returning with their families to thank the volunteers who held their hand through the hardest days of their lives.
It is on these evenings, more than any audit or annual report, that the work of Hamro Chhahari feels measurable.
