About Hamro Chhahari

A Shelter Born of Compassion at Mumbai's Tata Memorial

Hamro Chhahari — literally Our Shelter — was started by a few philanthropic souls who witnessed the hardship of cancer patients and their attendants travelling to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. Many were forced to sleep on Mumbai's pavements because lodging was unaffordable.

We provide rooms at the lowest possible charges with free self-cooking facilities, help arrange doctor's appointments, blood, transport — and in the worst hours, dignified cremation. From one rented room in Mumbai, we have grown to ashrams in Siliguri (2021) and Kolkata (2023).

To bring relief to marginalised section of society and create meaningful opportunities for the development of vulnerable people — especially women and children — so they can lead a dignified, self-empowered life.

Our Mission

A shelter free from every form of discrimination — open to all, serving with compassion. We aim to open many more ashrams across India and abroad to support patients, attendants, students and the marginal-income section in their hour of need.

Beyond a roof — full support for your journey

Every Hamro Chhahari ashram provides more than a room. From groceries to last rites, our team stands with you through every step of treatment.

A/C & Non-A/C Rooms

Comfortable rooms at the lowest possible charges for patients and attendants.

Free Self-Cooking

Gas cylinder, stove and utensils provided free of charge for home-style meals.

Doctor Appointments

Help with hospital selection and arranging appointments — escorted to hospital if needed.

Blood Arrangement

Coordination for blood requirements during the patient's treatment.

Conveyance Support

Travel ticket and transport arrangements wherever and whenever required.

Cremation & Last Rites

Dignified cremation in the city or transport of mortal remains to the hometown.

Emotional Counselling

Compassionate counselling for patients and their families through difficult days.

Caring Caregivers

Friendly, helpful caregivers and a homely environment around the clock.

Please contact the manager of the respective Chhahari with the patient's medical reports before travelling. We will consult the doctor and arrange the appointment — saving you from unnecessary hassle, stress and expense.
