From a single rented room in Chembur to ashrams in Siliguri and Kolkata — Hamro Chhahari Pariwar continues to spread its wings across India.
The original ashram — born on Independence Day, 2019
The very first Hamro Chhahari ashram opened in a rented room at Sundar Apartment, Chembur, on Independence Day 2019 — born from years of watching cancer patients and their attendants sleep on Mumbai's pavements because lodging near Tata Memorial Hospital was unaffordable.
Today, the Mumbai ashram remains the heart of the organisation. It hosts patients from across India and Nepal travelling to Tata Memorial, ACTREC and Bombay Hospital — runs a free self-cooking kitchen, coordinates appointments and blood, and stands beside families through every step of treatment, including dignified last rites in the worst hours.

North Bengal's gateway — opened on Makar Sankranti, 2021
On the auspicious morning of Makar Sankranti 2021, Hamro Chhahari opened its doors in North Bengal — at Khaprail, Sainikpuri. Siliguri sits at a crossroads: patients from Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Bhutan and the seven sisters of the North-East all pass through the city on their way to specialist hospitals further south.
The Siliguri ashram offers a familiar roof for patients who break their long journey here, consult local oncologists, await reports, or prepare for onward travel to Mumbai, Kolkata or Vellore. Meals are simple, vegetarian and cancer-friendly; volunteers speak the language of home.

Eastern India's shelter — inaugurated on Fulpatee, 2023
On the day of Fulpatee 2023 — the seventh day of Dasain — the third Hamro Chhahari ashram opened at Bhawanipur, Kolkata. The inauguration was marked by traditional rites, a community feast, and the welcoming of the very first patient family the same evening.
Kolkata's premier cancer hospitals — Tata Medical Center, Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute and Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre — draw patients from across eastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal. For the Nepali-speaking community in particular, finding affordable lodging close to treatment has long been a struggle. The Bhawanipur ashram closes that gap, offering more than a bed: a corner of familiarity in an unfamiliar city.
