Hamro Chhahari assists final rites of cancer patient

Siligadi Darpan reports on Hamro Chhahari's role in arranging the cremation of patient Hari Prasad Sharma in Mumbai with full dignity for the family — a moving account of the team accompanying the bereaved through every step.

When Hari Prasad Sharma's long battle with cancer ended at Tata Memorial Hospital, his family — far away in the hills of east Nepal — found themselves stranded in an unfamiliar city, unable to navigate the paperwork, the hospital procedures, or the cremation logistics in Mumbai.

Volunteers from Hamro Chhahari stepped in within hours. The team coordinated with hospital authorities to release the body, arranged transport to the cremation ground at Chembur, and stayed with the family through every ritual — ensuring the final rites were performed with the dignity the community deserves.

Speaking to Siligadi Darpan, a family member said, 'We had no one in this city. Hamro Chhahari did not just help us — they stood beside us as our own. They did not leave until the last prayer was offered.'

This was not an isolated case. Through the year, the Mumbai ashram supports several such families, quietly handling everything from death certificates to repatriation of ashes — a service rarely spoken of, but deeply needed by the migrant patient community.
